World Music Day, also known as Fête de la Musique, originated in France in 1982 and has since become a global celebration of music. It is a day when musicians, both amateur and professional, take to the streets, parks, and public spaces to share their talents and spread the joy of music to all.
India is a country with a rich and diverse musical heritage. Some of the major genres of music in India include- Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, Folk Music, Bhajans, Sufi Music and the recently trending Fusion Music.
Students at National Public School- NORTH presented a special assembly to celebrate this Music Day on June 21st, 2023. A solo rendition of the flute to the tune of “Vande Mataram” by Grade 6 student left the audience mesmerized. The school music teacher trained the students of Gr 5-7 to sing a group song, an original composition by him, “We the students of NPS, celebrate this World Music Day”. It was accompanied by a Grade 6 student playing the keyboard.
The audience joined in impromptu, clapping and swaying to the beats of the music and joining in whole -heartedly. It was a wonderful start to the day and many students walked up, smiling and humming to their classrooms after the assembly.
The teacher talk section highlighted the innumerable benefits of music in our daily life. She encouraged students to learn to play any musical instrument of their choice in their spare time.
