The students of Grade VII B conducted a special assembly on Friday, 9th June 2023 to celebrate the occasion of “World Ocean Day”.
The assembly began with the rendition of school prayer followed by a thought for the day which helped reinforce the feeling of a belongingness towards the ocean.
“You will love the ocean. It will make you feel small. But not in a harmful way. Small because you realise that you are part of something bigger…”
Students were updated with the international, national, sports news by few students.
Following this, the origin and significance of “World Ocean Day” was introduced through a speech and the theme of World Ocean Day 2023- “Planet Ocean: The Tides are Changing”, was introduced.
The theme laid emphasis on awareness and importance of preserving the oceans through means like sustainable seafood, reduction of single-use plastics, and adoption of ocean protection policies.
Songs are a popular means of educating learners. Keeping this in mind, a group of students rendered a melodious composition titled “Wild and Free” that conveyed the message of nature conservation in a very simple and tuneful manner.
Along with the song, few students displayed placards appealing for the protection of ocean life and ecosystem.
In the teacher talk section of the assembly, the teacher narrated an anecdote of the “Chinese Bamboo Tree”. This anecdote motivated the students to be persistent and patient in building a strong foundation to realize their future goals and dreams.
The assembly ended with the national anthem as is customary.
