The Pre-Primary students at NPS-NORTH hosted a vibrant and enlightening Diwali assembly to celebrate the Festival of Lights. The assembly provided an opportunity for young learners to engage with the traditions of Diwali, enhancing their cultural understanding and creativity.
All students and staff participated dressed in colourful traditional outfits, reflecting the cultural diversity and joy associated with Diwali. Teachers discussed the importance of Diwali, sharing short stories and songs associated with the festival, promoting cultural pride in their traditions and customs. The teachers spoke about celebrating a Green Diwali and the importance of staying safe when bursting firecrackers.
To expand the celebration’s educational value, a PowerPoint presentation titled Festival of Lights Around the World was shown, highlighting how different cultures globally celebrate similar festivals of lights, such as Hanukkah and Loy Krathong. This helped preschoolers gain a global perspective and see the universal themes of light and joy in various cultures.
Each student painted and decorated a diya, a traditional symbol of Diwali, facilitated by their teachers. This hands-on activity not only boosted their fine motor skills but also provided a beautiful keepsake to take home and share with their families.
The assembly successfully introduced the young learners to the values of togetherness, gratitude, and celebration that Diwali represents.
