On September 17th, the Pre-Primary students of NPS-NORTH conducted a special assembly, creatively combining the traditional elements of Onam, Kerala’s vibrant harvest festival, and the Regatta Gondola festival, the traditional Venetian rowing competition. This blend aimed to enrich the students’ understanding of diverse cultural traditions that share common factors. The festive air was filled with vibrant performances that highlighted the importance of both celebrations, creating an enriching experience for the young students.
The assembly commenced with a brief introduction to Onam, a harvest festival of Kerala. Teachers explained the significance of Onam, especially the legendary King Mahabali and the grand Pookalam. Students and staff dressed in traditional Kerala attire added to the festive spirit.
Concurrently, the focus was also on Regatta Gondola, a cultural festival of Venice, symbolizing unity and teamwork. The young students staged a captivating ramp walk with costumes representing both festivals and their radiant cultures. The thought for the day “Every festival is a new story of love and unity” echoed in the celebration as everyone joined in for cultural appreciation and joy.
The pre-primary students participated in a mock boat race, holding cutouts of boats, mirroring the rhythmic rowing movements in a fun and interactive way. During the day, they also engaged in creating lovely Pookalams in their classrooms.
All students were constructively engaged in learning, fostering both awareness and happiness.
