Students at National Public School NORTH celebrated Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, 28th November. This day originated in the early 17th century when the Wampanoag people and the Pilgrims shared a meal in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to celebrate a successful harvest. The special assembly, organized by the students aimed to cultivate the values of gratefulness and appreciation among the young learners.
The assembly began with the school prayer, followed by the thought for the day- “Give thanks for a little, and you will find a lot,” setting the theme for the celebration. The teacher further explained the significance of Thanksgiving Day, helping students understand the importance of being thankful for the innumerable blessings in their lives.
No celebration is complete without music. Following this idea, few students sang the gratitude-filled song ‘When I Think About My Life,’ which included expressions of ‘thank you’ in different languages. This song once again reinforced the diverse nature of gratitude, across different cultures.
The assembly included a beautiful skit and dance performance by the students of Grade III. The performance emphasized the essence of Thanksgiving—a time to reflect on our blessings, express gratitude to those around us, and cherish the warmth of togetherness.
As an integral part of the celebration, the pre-primary students expressed their appreciation to the administrative staff, support staff, including bus drivers, attendants, and security personnel, by presenting them with handmade thank-you cards. This heartfelt gesture encouraged the students to recognize the contributions of these people who help them in their daily lives. The recipients of the cards were delighted and moved by the kind gestures, creating a sense of togetherness and gratitude in the school.
In conclusion, the Thanksgiving Day celebration was a meaningful and impactful event that highlighted the importance of gratitude, kindness, and community.
